Drew Ornelas started his dance career late in life when he realized his passion for dance right out of high school. He started his ballet training at the Moses Lake Ballet Academy in Washington state when he knew that he would have to leave his small hometown if he wanted to pursue a serious career in dance. Drew enrolled in Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi where he received a full scholarship from the dance department. It was there that he received most of his ballet and modern training.
Drew then decided to move to San Diego to pursue his dancing even further. He trained at Academy of the Performing Arts in San Diego at the same time that he met his current dance/business partner, Erin Jelacic. Erin and Drew had very similar dreams and goals for their dance careers, so they decided to team up and co-founded Dark Horse Dance Productions (DHDP). DHDP is currently producing new work, and has had the great pleasure of working with Spencer Powell and Visionary Dance Theater for several of DHDP’s past productions.
